Adam
Fields is an American executive and film-maker who’s made some of the most
iconic films in the history of Hollywood. During his long illustrious career of
40 years, Fields has undertaken some of the most remarkable projects to have
ever been imagined.
With
movies such as Ravenous, An American Werewolf in London, Six Weeks, Missing,
Endless Love, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Great Balls of Fire, Ali,
Brokedown Palace, Blue Crush, and Limitless, Fields has proven time and time
again that no story is too complicated or absurd for big screen. And if all the
requisite elements are implemented carefully with intricate details, any story
regardless of how realistic or fictional it sounds, can be turned into a
cinematic masterpiece.
This is
something he justified beautifully in his epic cult smash hit- Donnie Darko!
Yeah, yeah! I know you must have seen it. In case you haven’t, it’s never too
late to add it to your wish-list.
Moving
on, Donnie Darko is a tale of a troubled teen (Jake Gyllenhaal) and his
mysterious imaginary friend “Frank the Rabbit” who informs him that the world
will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes and 12 seconds. From then onwards, the
movie develops into a perfect blend of science, fiction, exploration, magic,
time-travel, drama, horror, love, emotions, and so on. So basically, it doesn’t
fit fine into any single genre thus becoming a unique indie film that remains
ambiguous to this day even after 20 long years of its initial release.
But
getting this film ready wasn’t going to be as easy as the script itself was
rejected by almost every major studio before reaching Adam Fields. Even Fields
himself couldn’t understand the whole script in the first go although found its
dialogues quite compelling and the story so unique, especially for the younger
generations that he instantly made up his mind to go on with the project.
